Islam came to free the human being from shackles and misguidance, from desires beyond the bounds of the lawful and the unlawful, and from conflicts and philosophies — placing him on the scale of justice and encouraging him to enjoy this worldly life as the Noble Qur'an prescribes, without excess or neglect, in balance between the needs of body and soul. Allah the Exalted says: “Seek the home of the Hereafter through what Allah has given you, without forgetting your share of this world. Be good, as Allah has been good to you, and do not seek to spread corruption in the land, for Allah does not love those who spread corruption” (al-Qasas 28:77).
Making good use of spiritual and material energies has become an urgent need amid today's material civilisation. We must seek a renewed understanding of the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, apply the knowledge of revelation to the present day, and understand the social hardships societies face — so as to grasp the causes, deal with them wisely, and achieve a sound vision of change for the better and of protecting our homelands.
