The Prophetic Sunnah preceded modern civilisation in caring for plants, making it a religious duty for the Muslim. Its means include reviving dead land by farming and planting, creating plant reserves, endowing plants for the sake of Allah, commanding that land be cultivated and given to others when one cannot farm it, praying for blessing on plants, urging planting in every circumstance, and forbidding harm to them through hoarding, needless destruction or pollution.
The Prophetic guidance on caring for plants, and the rulings derived from it, go so far as to make the safety of plants something like a human right: the right of people to live in a healthy green environment.
