In this book the author excels in surveying the fields of voluntary work in the Prophetic Sunnah and classifying them into main fields with their branches.
They include service work, such as serving the imams, caring for families whose provider is absent, and relief; educational and da'wah work, such as teaching the Qur'an and Sunnah, reading and writing, acts of worship and the rites, composing poetry and literature, and learning foreign languages; social work, such as reconciling people, good intercession, sponsoring orphans, caring for widows, the poor and the disabled, feeding the hungry, giving water to the thirsty and relieving debtors in hardship; health and medical work, such as visiting the sick and caring for the wounded; environmental work, such as caring for animals, planting and removing harm from the road; financial and economic work, such as endowments for mosques, the poor, relatives and good causes, paying a Muslim's debt and the goodly loan; and professional work, such as training craftsmen and teaching those without a trade.
The author closes with the political and military fields of voluntary work in the Sunnah: striving in the path of Allah, helping build fortifications, providing for those who strive, guarding the Muslims, freeing captives and detainees, and helping refugees.
