Ancient poetry has a captivating magic that delights souls, attracts minds and revives hearts with the majesty of meaning dressed in beauty of form. Editors and researchers have worked to revive it by gathering its scattered pieces, documenting and studying them.
In this book the editor gathers the poetry of Banu Kinanah from early Islam and the Umayyad era, scattered across many sources — except for the Qurashis, and the Kinani poets who lived through both the Jahiliyyah and early Islam. Kinanah is one of the great tribes of the Arabs, yet its poetry from these periods had never been gathered in modern times; the poetry of some of its clans was collected long ago, but the vicissitudes of time prevented it from reaching us. The editor's hope is that this diwan be a treasure for truth, a tribute to beauty, and a deed rewarded by Allah, Mighty and Majestic.
