The truth has a clear method and a sure measure, especially as revelation endures, its rulings and meanings plain and perfectly clear. Yet differing understandings, ignorance and the schemes of those with ulterior motives have assailed the Sharia through the ages, until even its clear and decisive texts were made to seem contradictory and disputed.
This book came at a time when it was necessary to confront those who sow doubt and those who speak about the foundations of religion without knowledge. In it the author does his utmost to explain what is definitive (qat'i) and what is probable (zanni), and what follows from each in meaning and practice.
