This book presents the work of scholars in recording the history of writing tools over more than ten centuries, and their methods of controlling and editing writing and of establishing and documenting texts.
It describes the tools of writing through history: from the Jahiliyyah, through the Prophetic era, to those used in Arabic manuscripts until the end of the Mamluk period. It then treats writing tools and their rules in literature and language, and its final part is devoted to the rules of writing texts — their correction, vocalisation, classification, arrangement and copying.
