Al-Hafiz al-Maqdisi was one of the eminent scholars of the eighth century AH; he studied with Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah and others, may Allah have mercy on them. All who wrote his biography — Ibn Kathir, Ibn Hajar, al-Dhahabi and others — agreed that he was an authority in fiqh, hadith, legal theory, grammar and other sciences. The editor of this book spent several years researching and editing these unique treatises.
Their subjects are rich and of interest to researchers and general readers alike. In order, they treat: Allah's rising over the Throne; the hadith of the Mukhtasar of Ibn al-Hajib; the chains of the hadith of the Prayer of Glorification (salat al-tasbih); a reply to Muhammad ibn Tahir al-Maqdisi on listening (sama') and the nature of Sufism; the hadith “When one of you visits his brother and he feeds him…”; and chapters on tafsir, discussing the tafsir of Ibn Mujahid and the scholars' disagreement on the clear and the ambiguous verses.
